Edwardian-style Home Roof Transformation
An Edwardian style home in Blackburn, Victoria, was restored back to pristine condition, with a complete roof restoration undertaken as part of a larger renovation project.
The fading cement tiled roof was old and damaged and needed a refresh and repair. Rather than replace the roof entirely, the owners chose to restore it back to like-new condition with stunning results.
See the step-by-step process and before and after pictures below.
Stage 1: Roof is cleaned and treated
The cement tiled roof was damaged and faded from algae, dirt and lichen build-up due to the roof's age and years of exposure to Melbourne's harsh weather.
After a thorough roof inspection, the expert roofing applicator began the process of transforming the roof back to like-new condition.
The roof was pressure cleaned and a mould and algae prevention treatment was applied to stop further growth and build-up from occurring.
Stage 2: Roof is repaired and repointed
The roof had a number of damaged and missing tiles and mortar in the roof's joins was deteriorating and crumbling.
The professional roofing applicator replaced all cracked or lost tiles and repaired or replaced broken ridge capping.
Through an expert process of repointing, old and cracked mortar was removed and roof joins were refilled with fresh new mortar, providing protection and securing the roof's structural integrity.
Stage 3: Roof is primed and sealed
To prepare its surface for the final coating of roof membrane, the roof was primed and sealed.
Using a formulation designed for tiled roofs, the roof was sprayed with a special primer to provide maximum adhesion before the final coating of roof membrane was applied.
Stage 4: Roof membrane application and painting
The final step of the roof restoration process was the application of the exclusive Dulux Acratex roof membrane.
A double coating of the roof membrane was applied, to provide maximum durability and long lasting protection.
The owners chose a striking warm roof colour in Dulux Acratex Charcoal, to perfectly contrast with the home's fresh neutral exterior paint finish.
The finished roof restoration
The once stained and faded roof is now completely transformed with a glossy finish and hard wearing surface, restoring the entire home to its former glory. To see more complete roof restorations, visit our Gallery.
